DAY 4: Curly Edgy

It’s day 4 and wow, what a rewarding mission this has been. From the illustrations, to communicating with these phenomenal women, preparing the interviews for publishing, this is really challenging but instantly rewarding. these ladies have provided me with so much inspiration whether it be due to their drive, their positivity, their strength, etc.

Edgy and I have one of those internet relationships where, even before you meet the person you are cheering them on and just happy as hell as you see them flourishing. When we finally met at Curl Fest, it was nothing but good vibes, even while she was going a little crazy at the Palmers booth.

In this lil’ interview she talks about her experience as an influencer, maintaining her authenticity in a world of likes, followers and engagement, as well as how she followers her dreams, and why she wants all of you to do the same!

What industry are you in currently?

Full time student and hair model/content creator

Is your industry one usually dominated by women? How did you fight stigmas?

Yes it is, there are tons of beautiful women which is great to see but not all women are very welcoming. I know it’s easier said than done but I truly try to just let my energy speak for me. I want people to feel my vibes through an image or video and get a sense of who I am. I meditate and always remind myself that what’s meant for me will be for me no matter what, there is space for all of us to eat, be less hungry and more supportive.

What are you most proud of at the moment?

In May I will be God willing graduating with my bachelors, I took a 5 year break and came back more determined then ever. I left my job, became a full time student and accomplished getting my degree in one year instead of two!

How big a role has your culture and gender played in your journey?

Major! I come from Colombian decent, we are naturally extremely social and vibrant so this was instilled in me since I was a child. Due to he fact that I am a woman I know I have to work a little harder to get where I want to be, which has enhanced my ambition to shine through.

Any major life events in the last 6 months you’re working through? (Quit a job? Changed cities? Breakup? Marriage? Etc. positive or negative )

A couple of things actually, I’ve had blood pressure issues that have escalated, which is why I have been more devoted to fitness and being more health conscious.

Since I will be graduating in a few months, I need to start prepping my resume and getting ready to mentally prepare myself for the job hunt mentality.

What is your version of success? When will you say you’ve “made it”?

When I’m traveling the world spreading the word of reminding women that it’s more than okay to embrace who they are inside and out! It’s so important to know that you don’t have to look a certain way to feel beautiful.

What’s one thing you’ve realized with age/time in the industry? (and want other women to realize as well)

You don’t have to follow all trends, you can be yourself and still make it far. Once you stop comparing yourself and the likes that your images receive, you’ll see how much happier you’ll actually be.

Love or success? Should you have to choose?

Love, I’m a softy, success can get you far but being surrounding by those that you love and motivate you to always be a better version of yourself is so necessary. Money comes and goes, but true love whether its friendships, family or partners is endless.

Who do you want your work and message to reach?

I want to reach out to my Latina’s more on my post, there are so many women that feel lost and unaware of how to fit in or where to begin with self love. I want them to know that we can do it all if you have good intentions and a vivid vision.

What things do you do to keep your goals and visions attainable or organized?

I’m the kind of person that when I say I’m going to do something I do it. I do my research I ask around to make sure that what I’m aiming for isn’t outrageous and then I proceed, I meditate and look at daily inspirational quotes to remind me that I too can succeed.

One thing I admire about you is your authenticity in the sense that it seems you have fun with your insta and though your following grew impressively, I don’t really see you stressing the aesthetic of it or overly planning your feed. What are your thoughts on this?

At one point I was losing followers and thought to myself oh no what can I do differently! Then I saw how much energy it consumed and I said to myself, really Edgy? Whoever likes your post will make it known and if they don’t that’s fine as well. Just keep pushing and sending out positive vibes, I don’t want to be someone who does things for the gram. Instead I want to be someone who just gives glimpses of my life and reminding others that they can do so as well if they wanted to.

What are your thoughts on timing? I see that you drove to achieve goals while still in college.

It’s the gift and the curse, college has surely shown me how to multitask and be realistic with my time as well. It’s overwhelming but when you’re doing things you love time flies by, I needed to get a planner to stay on track, I hated them at one point now I’m like omg how was I living without it!

How necessary is a “private life”?

Very important, people always want more and more and it can get to a point where you don’t have anything left for yourself. I like to keep my personal life as private as possible, I do showcase my boyfriend or family from time to time to let people know I am human! Haha

What are some daily reminders you want Latina women or women in general to remind themselves?

Don’t second guess yourself on how far you can go, one small door can lead to a gazillion of other opportunities. All you have to do is try, if it didn’t work then it’s a lesson learned

What can we do to further uplift each other and create community rather than competition?

Look less at the numbers and more at the person as a whole, let people know you like their content, after all they did work hard and take time out of their day to make sure it came out as good as they hoped!

Stay connected to Edgy to find out all the things she has up her sleeve!
